May 2011-May 2013

Kevin has been called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been assigned to labor in the Brazil Londrina Mission for two years and will be teaching the gospel in the Portuguese language. Kevin will not be using the internet while serving as a missionary. This site will be updated by me, his mom, as I recieve his weekly email letters and pictures. Enjoy!

1st Letter

Hey Family! i love you all so much! i only get half an hour on wednesdays (p day) to email you and i spent a lot of it reading your letters so i dont have much time to write!
The MTC is great! the food is real brazilian stuff and really really good! im afraid ill pack on  a few pounds before i head out!
right now im scheduled to stay here for 8 more weeks like normal but they are gonna start testing us soon so i might get accelerated, but  i hope i dont because i am really learning a lot here, just about the little facets of sharing the gospel with people and how to follow all the misssion rules all the time and stuff. the return key on my keyboard stopped working so no more paraagraphs for you guys, sorry. i have two companions here, Elder Sanchez and Elder Bender, they are from northern california and corvallis oregon respectively. there are a lot of people here from the northwest because thats the only region here that is letting visas through. I love being here with the brazilian people, they are so fun and happy and outgoing and even if they dont understand you they still try to communicate and say hi every time you see them. its hot here, never gets below 80 degrees even at night and is really humid, but our classrooms have air conditioning so its bearable. my two companions are the only ones in my district so its just the three of us and our instructers most of the day, so we either learn a lot or we just sit and talk about random culture stuff. im having a lot of fun here, its pretty awesome. we get to leave the CTM as much as we want on P days, we have a few blocks we are allowed to roam and do whatrever we want, thats really awesome. We went to the temple this morning for the first time and that was interesting, the session was in english for all the missionaries, and it was cool to see how the church is exactly the same everywhere. I love you all so much! one week down, 103 to go. but the only thing im counting down to is when i can speak the language well enough to actually share the gospel with them, i learned all the grammer rules in school, so now all it is is hearing it constantly and trying to speak it all the time. i love you all so much! my timer is running out so i got to go! ill write you again next week! Até mais! Tchau!
